If you are a Aviation Lover and live in the Blue Mountains, you would have noticed, listening to Airband Radio sometimes is a bit hit and miss.
Mostly because the distance between the airport and where you were trying to listen is too great, unless you have a really big outside antenna.
But, fear not, because half way up the mountains, south of Wentworth Falls is a place called 'Kings Tableland' that relay several aircraft frequencies as they fly over the mountains
Kings Tableland Aviation Towers seen from Tablelands Rd
Put these frequencies into your radio.
FREQUENCIES
118.400 (Departures)
123.400 (Brisbane Centre)
124.550 (Radar)
128.600
133.500 (Melbourne Centre)
135.100 (Inbound Clearance)
363.800
The Radio Link from Kings Tableland then heads to Mt Edith (near Jenolan Caves)
118.500 (Melbourne Centre)
119.700
125.000
129.800
Give these frequencies a go, I know from experience, 123.400 (Brisbane Centre) and 133.500 (Melbourne Centre) work well where i live (Springwood)
Its funny because the airplanes that fly behind (south) of my house boom in on Melbourne Centre and the airplanes that fly over out the front (north), i can hear on Brisbane Centre.
If you want to visit the site (Kings Tableland), turn left after going up Bodington Hill on the Great Western Highway will take you on Tablelands road, follow this road for a while and on your right hand side you will find a Airservices Notice and a Service road that will take you the transmitting towers.
Observe and wonder but don't trespass.
Cheers
